i’ve taken the files for a number of postings offline (the postings are still on the site, but not the zip files). the download link should not be working for these (just text “download: invalid download id.”).  i’ve also tagged the posting as “archived”.

if you’d like a copy of one of these, leave me a comment, and i’ll see if i can put it back up for you temporarily.

i’ll be doing this sort of cleanup regularly.  i think the large number of files is affecting the service — download are starting to truncate routinely.

perhaps coincidentally, a few webcrawlers have been doing heavy downloads lately; i’ve blocked all the webcrawlers i can.

so, between removing a number of shows and blocking the webcrawlers, i hope these problems will go away.

johnny-griffin-eddie-lockjaw-davis-1962-10-10-penthouse-front-coveri think that you can never really get enough of johnny griffin & eddie “lockjaw” davis together.  finishing up now and thought it’s been a while… so tomorrow’s forecast is a johnny griffin & eddie “lockjaw” davis tsunami.

i was in budapest all last week, and caught micheller myrtill & her band swinguistique at fat mo’s. swinguistique were great, and much as the name might suggest; micheller has a lovely voice & gets the audience going.  don’t miss them if you get a chance.  and fat mo’s was very much my kind of place, wish i’d run across it sooner than my last day in budapest so i could spend some serious time there (that’s what you get on business trips, i guess…).

this was uploaded to dime as a dvd, back in july 2010.  i’ve been listening to a lot of shows recorded up in schenectady, ny, lately.  i thought that included some shows by frank vignola, and so gave this another listen.  well, i don’t have any shows by frank vignola from schenectady or albany, but it was a really fun show, so i thought it’d go well here.

this is only the audio from the dvd.  i’ve demux’ed it but have left it in the original ac3 format.  i can play that in fooobar2000, no problem, hope you can play .ac3 as well.

apologies for not uploading the entire dvd — it’s much larger than i wanted to upload today.  the show is in a livingroom (see the sharon house concert site), with a fantastic, intimate feel… and that’s just the video.  if i’m ever in that neck of the woods, i’m definitely going to try to catch a show.

ran across this one in a folder “interesting covers”.  while i don’t remember adding it there, i really enjoyed listening again to the version of “love for sale” and indeed the whole show.  i only played with that “interesting cover” collection for a few months; but for that, this might otherwise have still been overlooked… perhaps i should pick that up again.  be that as it may, it’s a pity this is the only teddy edwards that i have.

i’ve been travelling a lot lately, home one week out of the last 5 and out again next week.  getting a bit tired.

anyway, here’s the first of two covers of joni mitchell songs.  this show is a long-time favorite of mine, maria pia de vito singing a number of joni covers.  she has a great voice, well suited (i think) to the songs that she chose.

[update: actually, i just listened to the other show, from central park summer stage in 1999, and i’m not going to upload it.  didn’t really do as much for me as i had remembered, maybe later…]

off on a business trip, this was on the thumb drive that i brought along.  who’s that? i said, being ever feeble minded when it comes to remembering names.  listened to it … loved it.  the dime page showed that i d/l’ed it back in oct 2010 (tip o’ the hat to piergi), and liked it enough to add a comment that i loved it.  well, i haven’t changed, i still love it.  now where can i get some more?

i’m in budapest at the moment.  great city, really enjoy it every time that i come here.  but you need to plan ahead, which i singularly failed to do, as the penultimate performance of wagner’s the flying dutchman was on the day i arrived (arrive sooner… coulda woulda shoulda) and the last performance is on saturday (but i must be off friday night).  oh well.  looking into the schedule around the next couple of month-ends, maybe i can catch something here then… .. .

hungarians really seem to like meat, i swear it seems as if every dish has a bit, even my layered cabbage appetizer tonight.  the place we went boasted about it (meat, that is), and on the back of the waiter’s shirts, over a shoulder blade, it said things like ‘vegetarians are people who eat side dishes’ & ‘real men eat meat’.  and something i’ve not seen in a ‘meat’ restaurant:  a large group of women having dinner together.  didn’t look to see what they were having, but probably not side dishes.

here’s a great show by the charlie haden quartet from sometime in 1988, down in nice, southern france.  don’t know precisely when or where (maybe the nice jazz festival?), nor even if it’s the whole show… but it’s well worth a listen; i’ve added the entire 11-minute first song as a sample.

well, enough slow and sad.  while we’re still close enough to christmas to get away with it, here is my all-time favorite christmas jazz show, featuring the fantastic dwight trible singing.  why have i not heard of him before?  anyway, the seeder on dime (ladyface57) “edited out two songs which do not fit in this category”… i’m not sure if ladyface57 meant jazz or christmas or both.  around here, this got a lot of play over the past few weeks (i even burnt an audio cd!).  so tuck this away for another 11 months & then do the same.

ran across this a week or so ago, when i was tidying things up a bit, and realized that i’d played it 3 or 4 times since.  so here it is.  slow, kind of sad (“turn out the stars”; “ne me quittes pas”;”i ain’t got nothing but the blues”), just the thing for these short, cold, wet early january days when the christmas cheer is fading away…
