Miles Davis Quintet - Salle Pleyel 3-Nov-1969 - CD Front Insertbetween christmas, new years, a little trip and being incredibily busy, january has been flying by.  so lets start the year off here with a bit more miles davis.  if i can keep miles to below 5% of the posts, then i suppose i’m doing well.

anyway, this has been floating around up on dime since sept 2011 (thanks to matthughen), as a video.  this is the demux of that video.  according to plosin, it is from an ortf tv broadcast.  certainly looks that way, but unfortunately i’m not going to upload the 8.4gb video here… the demuxed audio will have to do.

comments from original (video) info file:
first set is great quality video and audio. the second set is a little rougher video with several
brief dropouts. imho, this does not diminish the viewability of this rare performance. second set
also includes jack on piano and chic playing some drums and double drums as well. i have not seen
another video of this rare phenomenon. unfortunately the mics don’t appear to be dialed in. this
is my final boot liberated from same south american reseller. set lists are from entree. no menus
or chapters; just the complete performance straight through.

cd covers made with ronyasoft cd dvd label maker, v.3.01.32, using screenshots from the video.

here’s another nice miles davis show, from his 1967 tour.  it was reseeded on dime last november, but i downloaded this copy in 2010.  like the last miles show, i’ve been relistening to them as i upload them here…. been another miles davis couple of days around here!

here is another concert from the 1967 tour, a few days after rotterdam. the duet introduction to ’round midnight is fascinatingly different and equally beautiful. davis and herbie hancock clearly experimented with this opening each night. this concert ends with “masqualero,” which is more usually associated, i think, with the electric miles that is a few years away. all told, extraordinary music. i’ve pasted below the original info file, and as always, i am deeply grateful to the original seeder.

fyi, video footage of two dates from this tour, stockholm and karlsruhe, are included in columbia’s gargantuan box set, “the complete columbia album collection.”

last week, i was listening to a lot of miles davis from 1966 & 1967.  ok, i’ll admit it:  with miles after around 1970, i don’t always get it.  there.  in any event, those were some great shows on my little ‘miles davis mid-sixties’ day, so here’s one of them.  if i get ambitious, maybe another to come.

on the seed back in 2008 when i downloaded this, the seeder newplanet7 said

losin calls this an audience recording, but it sounds more like a board.
http://www.plosin.com/milesahead/sessions.aspx?s=660521

but actually losin describes it as a “soundboard recording (b-)”, which sounds right to me.  i’m not listening on the worlds best sound system, but i’d have put it more like “soundboard (a-)”, myself.

i think that this was also bootlegged by a european label “sunburn recordings” at some point but hasn’t been officially released that i am aware.

Art Blakey Manchester 1961.05.06 front thumbnaili was trolling through old shows that i had on one of my various usb drives, stuff that i downloaded from dime in 2007, 2008, looking for something that might be worth reseeding.  my ratio on dime has been gracefully slipping and sliding since we moved to korea, which worries me.  given that i have a ul/dl ratio of 1.19 on over 2 tb of activity, this isn’t a big worry, but still… it was 1.21 back in august when we got here.

anyway (a word that i think i use a lot), i found this phenomenal show, which i downloaded back in 2007 when ricola seeded it.  but i haven’t reseeded it on dime.  why not?  well, it was issued in 2012 on the (spanish?) “head on fire” label, serial hof-71, in a limited edition of 300.  but i’m pretty sure that hof is a bootleg label.  not on any blakey discographies?  a release of only 300 cd’s?  a 2012 release from a label that has no web presence at all?  no, sorry, i don’t think it’s been officially released.  thanks for any further information.

but i don’t want to mess with the nice folks on dime.  so for the time being here it is, here but (just in case) not there.  until i can find out more about head on fire.  if there really is anything to find out.

btw, searching for ‘head on fire’ yielded some interesting and bizarre results.
