violin, sax and b3?  max grosch must have seen me coming a mile off (as they say)!  and this show very much lives up to its promise.  while it’s lovely when one or another instrument is taking the lead, i just went crazy for the bits when they’re all blasting away full tilt.  i can’t remember such a lineup before, but then that might just be my memory.  there’s also a nice recording of max grosch & matthias bublath (on piano) on youtube.

well, we move on now to heinz sauer in a duo with michael wollny, although sure, isn’t a pianist almost like having two or three musicians sometimes?  they’ve played together a lot as a duo & have a cd (don’t explain) that is worth a look if you like this.  i skipped the interview as always, but then immediately fell right in love with the first track & never looked back.  what else can i add?  enjoy.

first this show by the harry greene trio, and then we’ll have duos by heinz sauer & michael wollny shortly.  it was lucky running across these two shows at almost the same time.  they went together well, and hopefully for you too.  harry greene must have been quite young – the photo (of the same lineup) is from a ticketing site, for a 2019 show; it looks like a promo photo, and is undated.  this show today is probably from 2017, but it might have been 2016 (the folders for the 2 sets are named 2016; everything else is 2017).  it’s a high quality “audience” recording.

it wasn’t until i began looking into this that i realized it had been  shared not only on dime but also on inconstant sol (which you should look at if unfamiliar with), but doesn’t seem to have been available for a while (?).  which is a shame because it really is such a phenomenal show.  so here it is, yet again!  inconstant sol had a nice commentary on this, btw.

i also found that it’s available (as a bootleg, as far as i can tell) on a japanese site, where someone added

although it is an album named don cherry, it is an old & new dreams mentz formed under the gate of ornet coleman when he saw personel?i also play natural day tunes?overall, it’s a great performance, but the white eyebrows are drums’ ed blackwell’s play?you can listen to drumming like a japanese child, and it feels irresistible?blackwell himself seems to have heard of japanese ? children?this play convinced him to be the unmistakable and unique jazz giant?i listened to blackwell’s play a lot, but i wonder if it’s the best take to play here?

thanks, machine translation!  and may we always listen to drumming like a japanese child.

in my high school’s artroom above the blackboard, in the mid/late 1970s, someone (i think we can figure out who) had written “bob doyle says more grateful dead!”).  words to live by, certainly, and in that same vein:  more don cherry!

just a quick posting of a show i was listening to yesterday.  if i read the equipment right, it was recorded off the air via an fm receiver onto an olympus camera.  sure, why not?  it worked well anyhow, and nice of the “steven” to share it not being into jazz (unlike all of you).   no setlist or lineup, unfortunately (i am trying to find those; if not, know that i’m rubbish at setlists), but a lovely hour of music from jazz middelheim.  i hope to get to middelheim this year but don’t expect it’ll work out; maybe 2024.

no idea about the setlist, i’m not into this kind of music and won’t keep this recording, so keep on seeding please

i [“i” is the taper] recorded this show with a timer, i missed the end introductions from the band but luckily all the music is there
2019-08-17 is the correct date, i accidentally wrote 2019-08-18 in the info file…

i’ve been on bit of a myra melford jag lately, which was kicked off by this very long show from 1995.  researching this show online (result: nil), i saw that padovaoggi.it had a webcast of a show from the same period (which i missed, of course), but which is included in the quite interesting selection of recordings from their archives (hosted on mixcloud.com; 96k mp3/m4a … sigh!).
