well summer’s over, and we’ve probably all missed the brecon jazz yet again, haven’t we?  but here’s a nice set by ruby braff from around 23 years ago to make up for it.  meanwhile, around here, i’m off to my first show at arthur’s since covid started.  keen excitement all around, naturally.  apparently they’ve (had to) remodel a bit, so also looking forward to see what it looks like now.

mikeos, the seeder on dime, included a copy of spike robinson’s obit from the daily telegraph.  i’d not realized that robinson had such a life outside of music, leaving professional music from the late 50’s until 1981:  missle work… project manager at cape canaveral… a management role “at honeywell corporation in denver. the local jazz scene was thriving and he played regularly, but could not travel because of his job.”  so here he is, 10+ years later, back in london.

i’m trying out mega on this post, btw.

[update 2017-01-15:  i had archived this some time ago, and in checking this before re-uploading, i found that this show – or parts of it – may since have been issued 2012 on eagle records, as the abc & d of boogie woogie – live in paris.  discogs.com lists ‘live in paris’, noting that it was “recorded between 7th and 11th september 2010 at duc des lombards, paris”.  so… the following is no longer available here.]

this is something that i picked up back in september 2010, and that is always a favorite of mine whenever a little boogie woogie is called for. recorded from french radio by metro_cubo, it has the inevitable talkative dj, but at least he doesn’t talk over the music (as some of them do… what is it with french dj’s? they love the sound of their own voices). anyway, it’s a fantastic recording.

16 tracks, but unfortuntately no setlist
