this was “uploaded and processed by thosespacesinbetween” which i think might be (some of?) the (former?) planetfuncamp crew up in old lyme, connecticut, up to their usual fine work, especially the bold lisa e — a tip o’ the hat to lisa e.  i have friends in fairfield, just an hour up the road; if i’m ever able to make it over there again, i’ll have to pop up the freeway to check out old lyme & the old lyme inn.

you have to to hand it to jalc…  the produtions there are fantastic.  this new year’s eve performance by two of my current favorite pianists is like a turbo-charged piano trio, plus the great jimmy heath (recently deceased, r.i.p.) and nicholas payton thrown in just because new year’s eve at dizzy’s.  with two pianos, i’m always reminded of the salieri line from amadeus that there are simply too many notes (and the first track definitely felt that way). but then, as i always say, too much is not enough, and nothing exceeds like excess.  oh, and speaking of new year… happy lunar new year!  health, luck, and prosperity to all.

the two grand pianos are nestled together opposite each other, cyrus chesnut on the left, benny green on your right

not much to say about this:  just good jazz that i sometimes think i could listen to all day.  need more be said, really?  i was sorry not to find any webpage for justin robinson, as i thought he was very good  here, so i added a bio on allaboutjazz.com.  shared on dime by ‘elgaucho’ in march 2014.

also in the news, i finally updated the listing of all posts here.  lot of catchup, but a quick mysql query, dump the details into excel and finish the html formatting there… and didn’t even take long.  looking at the list, i realized that this blog has been up 6 years, as of last month, and this makes 275 shows (almost all of which are still available here).
