MollyJohnson-03ah vacation!  a time to travel and, when resting up from a tiring day seeing friends, listening to a bit of music and relaxing before going out again in the evening.

‘plaz_restore’ shared this back in 2011… a fantastic show, with a couple of songs that really stand out for me.  the back to back versions of “rain” (by molly johnson & steve mackinnon) and then bobbie gentry’s “ode to billy joe” just knock me out.

molly johnson is renown as one of canada’s great jazz vocalists. from nightclubs and bars from coast-to-coast, to leading theatres and concert halls around the world, her luscious voice continues to wow audiences. after creating much original music she turned her attention to jazz standards on her most recent album, “lucky”. it won the 2009 juno for best vocal jazz album and also received the 2009 national jazz award for best female vocalist. molly is the weekend host of cbc’s “radio 2 morning” program (www.cbc.ca) and an occasional guest host for toronto’s jazzfm. joining molly in this quartet are three stellar toronto-area jazz players: pianist phil dwyer, drummer davide direnzo, and bassist mike downes.
