here’s a bumper 2-day concert recorded by george van eps (one of the guest musicians) and shared by his (nephew? it’s often so hard to tell from usernames).  such a lovely combination too – piano, cornet, clarinet, guitar and sax plus of course bass & drums, don’t forget them.  real classic stuff, and if you’re in the mood for it, four and a half hours isn’t too much at all!  to the contrary, too much is not enough as i’ve always said.  hard to find links for most of these guys, they were too old, too long before the internet, but most of them pop up on the pete fountain site, which is worth a look in its own right, or other dixieland sites.   i’ve done a little rearranging of files & folders, as noted below.  enjoy!  and here’s hoping that ‘kovinis’ shares some more of his uncle’s recordings one of these days!

comments from ‘kovinis’ (seeder on dimeadozen)

“i decided to share some of the recordings of my late uncle, george van eps.
this is only disk 4 of a 6 cd set of a concert that spanned two days. i will
upload the rest of this concert if there is any interest. i also have many
other live recordings of my uncle from many different venues and various
musicians. these also await your requests.

any help with setlists is appreciated. i hope you enjoy this. the audio
quality is quite nice.”

changes
– combined folders into two instead of six
– but no file renaming: with the numbered subfolders, the tracks should play in order
– new consolidated info file (this file), now with track timings
– consolidated ffp and md5 checksum files

  2. Thanks Pete, what lovely swinging music. Most appreciated.

  3. Thanks Pete, nice to have you back – assuming that you are ‘back’, of course!

    • yes, i’m now back from a very refreshing vacation. and the weather cooperated, mostly! it pays to get your order in early, you know.

  4. Hi Pete, For some reason, I’m getting an error message when I try to open the 1986-04-19 .zip, “data is corrupted” and when I click ‘continue’, it won’t open. The other one works fine. Cheers for the music, though!!! MonkSphere

    • try again. i just downloaded the 19-apr .zip file (1st try hung at around 80%, 2nd try was successful). 7-zip testing the zip as ok, extracted it, and disks 1 to 3 all passed the ffp and md5 tests (disks 4-6 being in the other zip). probably an issue on your end, or with the download from 1fichier. thanks for letting me know, though — the occasion bad zip has been known to happen around here 🙁

  5. Hi Pete, Thanks very much for your attempt to right things here. Nope, doesn’t work, but I understand that 1fichier has been, er, not behaving well recently, so I might leave it awhile and try again. Cheers, MonkSphere
