even though i posted a george coleman show from 12 nov 1979 back in january this year, i can’t resist posting this one.  it’s a good recording but not perfect (the seeder or taper rated it b+), and oh my goodness but this goes on and on (though in fairness, it is over two nights).  so naturally, it was the first thing i put on a fresh usb drive for the car — currently more like a georgecolemanmobile, but then i don’t drive much here.

i’ve split the two nights into separate .zip files, but the info file & checksum files are for all files being in one folder.
update:  track 12 is apparently missing from the zip files, but can be downloaded at https://1fichier.com/?gtzsevhtpg461xr2jn45

thanks to bluenote2004 for the original seed of this in 2008. it listed the year and personnel incorrectly. many tunes were unidentified. some still are. check sound samples in comments.

sony soundforge pro 10.0 used to join fragments, redo track splits, eliminate blank spots between songs, equalize to boost bass with width of 1.4 octaves centered around 100 hz.

still needs pitch correction on some tracks – who can do?

here’s another freddie hubbard show, from almost exactly 10 years later.  why have one when two will do as well or (as here) even better?  saturday turned into a bit of a hubbard-fest around here, not stopping with two shows, but that’s all for tonight.

this was (re)seeded by ubu on dime back in 2008.

finally got our car up & running, those little things like insurance, license plates, etc can be a challenge in the right (or wrong) circumstances.  so, driving to work on friday in the car for the first time, i had a handful of usb thumb drives, but out of all that, this show was the only thing that would play on the car stereo…

i downloaded this in august 2014, when ‘jazamo’ seeded it on dime, commenting that “here’s a nice set from freddie hubbard recorded in 1977. freddie moves away from his standard lineup replacing the tenor sax with electric guitar on this tour. re-seeded here in it’s original fm broadcast mp2 codec, the sound is excellent. many thanks to the original seeder!”   thanks, jazamo!

i’m not sure what made me think of vijay iyer the other day, but i ended up listening to 3 of his shows from 2016 over the course of the day today.  this one features tyshawn sorey on drums, and it took some looking to find him on the internet (“titian”, “tysion”, the list goes on… there was no lineup in the original info file).  each of the 3 shows had a different drummer, first the june 2016 frankfurt show had marcus gilmore on drums, then this show with tyshawn sorey & finally justin brown at the oct 2016 bimhuis show.

well, i was on a bit of a heath bros kick today.  which, by the way, is quite the way to get a day’s work in.  like those old lucky ads said:  picks you up when you’re down, calms you down when you’re tense.  etc etc.

started with jimmy heath and the heath brothers at mr c’s, 1978; followed by jimmy Heath at the ramada inn, august 17, 1975 (vol 1.. where’s vol 2 please?); finishing up with this fantastic show from japan in 1975, with both nat adderley (applause) and cedar walton (more applause), not to mention tootie heath!  actually, that last show was on twice, as i’d earlier trimmed 2-second gaps but had kept — and inadvertently played — the original files as well.  halfway through the second go-around… well, here ya go.  enjoy.  btw, times below may be off by 2 seconds or so. 🙂

downloaded from dime march 2008 (seeded by bluenote2005). there were 2-second gaps at the end of every track, which i have removed using wavtrim 2.24.   consequently, i have redone this info file and created new .md5 and .ffp files. — pete (dublin)

here’s a nice show from the national concert hall in dublin that i recorded off the air & seeded on dime in 2007.  it’s a great show, and very well recorded but wasn’t so good for folks who actually attended.

the rté announcer comments on the “truly tragic quality of the sound”.  and when i seeded this on dime, retnull described it as “the worst live sound i’ve ever heard”.   but, fortunately, as the the rté announcer added, “rté’s soundman was a bit wiser, and the recorded sound is very good indeed.”

the jazz alley show on rté has been dropped in my absence, which is really too bad.

finally, a shout out to the fine folks at waltons music and the waltons new school of music (where my daughter studied piano until we moved away).  this was one of the waltons world masters series, and their support for that series (and this show) is appreciated.

lately, i’ve been listening more to groups for whom i have few, or even only one, show (not to take away from the many great, and sadly often late, jazz musicians, from whom i might have rather more shows or cds).  generally, those are groups less familiar to me & there’s a tendency to comparatively new jazz as well, which is a nice bonus.

this great (and long) recording by the wasserfuhr brothers, from early 2015 fit that bill to a tee.  their fifth album, landed in brooklyn, was released in february 2017.
