these were both shared by ‘cosmikd’, years apart.  i was going to upload the 1988 show and then listened to the 2007 show & just had to go for a “twofer”.  of the two, i prefer the second (2007) simply because it has more elisabeth kontomanou and was mostly written by her.

there’s not too much piano jazz up here, but occasionally one really strikes my fancy, like this one, recorded just 6 months before sal mosca died at age 80.

the very beginning to this isn’t great (and the cut-in doesn’t help!), so i nearly just moved on to something else, but fortunately stuck with it.  i might just spend the rest of today listening to other courtney pine recordings!  looking for photos from that period turned up very little except for this rather nice jazz photo blog, with some excellent shots of courtney pine from 1988 (but in the end, i went with a photo of the tape’s j-sleeve… so mid-80s!).

here’s some harmonica jazz.  like (i suppose) many people, you say “harmonica” and i think of blue ‘harp’.  silly me!  but i do love the harmonica, be it blues or jazz…  such a lovely warm sound.

anyway, recently back from madrid where i saw andrea motis (who was fantastic, and sang more / played trumpet less than i expected).  then last weekend, down at the cork jazz fest, i saw sélène saint-aimé, in a show that still leaves me a bit speechless (& that’s a good thing in this case, in case you’re unsure).   so jazz-wise, i’m in jolly mood, and hope you’re the same!

completely unrelated to any of that, i recommend a series that i’m listening to (some bits again, some for the first time), the imc’s blind date jazz series, which you can see through their site or on the series youtube playlist.  check it out.

i was out of town for 2 weeks and had a number of shows to listen to and maybe share up here.  but no:  it turned out that i couldn’t access the files.  so, nothing this month until now!  maybe we’ll have a little flurry of activity over the this week (hopefully! i’m out of town this weekend as well).

following a recent question, i’ve found that the rss feed is not working.  so if you’ve not been getting the feed from feedburner… that’s why.  hopefully, i’ve just fixed that.  if not, well, we’ll just see, won’t we?

i’ve been listening to a number of shows by leszek mozdzer, and this was my favorite of them.  anna maria jopek has such a wonderful voice and piotr nazaruk’s various instruments add depth to the music (i couldn’t find a link for him, though).

here’s a sampling of elliott sharp, solo, from various locations and dates over around 5 years.  the style is similar throughout, which isn’t that surprising (but it could be), and the recording levels seemed quite similar (which is surprising).  so they all work together very well, if  you’re in the mood for around 2 hours of elliott sharp solo performances. g’wan, give it a try.  it’s all in 1 zip file, but with separate folders for each section below.  i was torn between this lovely combination and elliott sharp & hélène breschand “chansons du crepuscule”, in saalfelden 2018 — very very different, and in the end, this was much more sunday-morning music.  another day, perhaps.

seeder’s comments: one of the short but best jazz on 3 sessions, recorded in wonderful clarity, i seeded the first 2 tracks as part of another post while ago (re-seeded unchanged with the same file names) and the bbc broadcasted another track in one of their “missing bits” programs, so i hope you too will…
…enjoy !!

well summer’s over, and we’ve probably all missed the brecon jazz yet again, haven’t we?  but here’s a nice set by ruby braff from around 23 years ago to make up for it.  meanwhile, around here, i’m off to my first show at arthur’s since covid started.  keen excitement all around, naturally.  apparently they’ve (had to) remodel a bit, so also looking forward to see what it looks like now.
